Mommas and Babies!

At the Apartment

It’s been a while, but have had nothing to report. It’s not that we haven't been busy. It’s just that we have not been interestingly busy. We have been tucked away here in our little part of Africa. We go to work in the morning, and come home at night. We stay busy, but have settled in to more or less of a routine. It has actually been kind of nice. It seems like the missionaries are less sick, if that is possible, this last couple of weeks. Around home we watch the birds in the afternoon and love to watch the swarms of bats as they flight out each night. We have a big group at the MTC, and we have started lecturing twice and giving four sets of “jabs” (apparently thats what the British missionaries call immunizations) to each group. We still love this part of things.
We visited the Deseret Hospital and Motherhood Center this week. We will be helping with a little service project, so we went out to meet the staff and tour the facility. All I can really remember is that there are a LOT of babies (and of course a lot of mommas). They are all beautiful! All the mommas where their very best clothing to come to clinic--its like Sunday all over again.

A Busy Clinic (I love the little girl in yellow with the head wrap just like mom)

We have been fascinated since our arrival with the baby wraps. Here is what they look like.

And here is how it is done.

The best part of the clinic is the baby scale. We arrived in the morning and there were perhaps 50 new mothers and babies waiting for their check-ups. The first few babies in line are stripped down, and put into a little sling with a handle, and then in turn, taken to be weighed. It's part  “Johnny Jump Up” and part meat market. For us, it was just plain fascination.

We had a great couple of weeks.
